The Scopoling originated from nightly events with large social activity. Having these nighttime group gatherings in outdoor areas will be enough to create Scopolings.

It resembles a large and dark, reptilian form. Its body is sleek in appearance with some muscular definition. Its anatomy roughly resembles a human, save for its torso and head. The Scopoling will have up to 2 to 4 pairs of arms. Long and narrow quills line vertically on the top of the Scopoling’s head. Fiery yellow eyes, up to 5 to 10 pairs, dot the Borderling’s head and neck. Inside its long snout are rows of black teeth, even in length and width. Its tongue, mouth, and throat are black and oily in appearance. At the end of the Borderling’s long, tapering tail is a two-pronged appendage. Its tail is very versatile and strong, capable of grabbing onto tree branches and lift objects heavier than itself. The Scopoling emits a woody, burnt odor similar to a lit fireplace.

Inside the Scopoling’s body is a system of elastic veins and muscles with the same consistency as its mouth. It can stretch its body in resemblance of a rubber band. Because of its skeletal system, however, the Scopoling has its limits. Its joints will pop and become dislocated if it is stretched beyond its limits and it will take 2 days for the muscles to pull the joints back together.

The Scopoling speaks in a hush, raspy voice, and has a harsh lisp when pronouncing ’s’ and soft ‘c’ sounds. A low, hissing sound resonates from its throat when it breathes.

An impure Scopoling will have dimmer eyes. Its skin is more brittle and will break easily. Once after its skin is split open, the exposed muscles won’t hold its shape and will slop out in sticky threads.

Effect on Its Surroundings

People will see glaring eyes in their vision when gazing into the eyes of the Borderling, unintentional or not. After 4 minutes, the affected individual will feel a sense of paranoia for as long as 2 hours. Longer exposures, in around 10 minutes, will have a lifelong effect on the person.
People with a solitary life will be cured of their loneliness, however, and will benefit from these halluciations. In rare cases, there will be a mutual friendship between the affected person and the Scopoling.

If the hallucinations affect a group of people all at once, their disposition will become erratic and will either stay away from other human beings for a short amount of time or will fight against one another. The Scopoling will go as far as to try to break up fights when paranoia-fueled fights had occurred.
Social animals, like certain domesticated cats, dogs, and also wild animals like chimpanzees, can be affected by the Scopoling’s effects. Groups of animals will have a similar effect when a group sees the Borderling’s eyes all at once but can vary depending on disposition.

Diet and Behavior

The Scopoling has a curious and social personality. It gathers in groups of 5 and 6 when observing sentient creatures. Very secretive, it watches crowds from a safe distance. Behind gates,  under tables, and on top of trees are ideal places for the Borderling to settle. It listens carefully for anything that piques their interests. Later, it shares its information towards other Scopolings. Once after the Borderling listens to a group of people, it will share such info to its own group and will ignore anything that doesn’t satisfy their tastes.

Its locomotion makes the Scopoling incredibly stealthy. The Borderling will stretch its neck first then its torso. Most of the time, it crawls on the tips of its toes, but when threatened, it stands up on its hind legs.

When necessary, the Scopoling will create an illusion, discussing its true form with that of a human’s. Only a person with a keen eye will see abnormalities within the Borderling’s illusion.
Any healthy Scopoling will avoid coming in contact with groups of people, knowing that if more than one person will look into its eyes, chaos will happen. Impure Scopolings will take advantage of the disarray, watching with glee, laughing sadistically when someone hurts another.
The impure Scopoling will also spread lies and gossip among other impure Scopolings. If it's bold enough, they will whisper lies and also personal secrets to humans, causing trouble with both species.

Habitat, Predation, and Interdimensional Travel

The Scopoling can be found in the first half of nighttime. Nightclubs, late night cafés, and outdoor parties will have a chance of having a group of Scopolings watching.
It enters our world snout first, fading into view with a single leap. After its swift entry, it waits for others of its kind to follow suit. After a nod of approval, they will explore their surroundings, looking for people to listen to.

The Borderlings have no known predators but their own kind. When an impure Scopoling is within the group or join a group, the pure Borderlings will act aggressively, clawing and attacking the other to protect themselves. Any corpses will be discarded in garbage cans and dumpsters. Its decay will begin after 3 hours. Its flesh will become brittle and break apart while its muscles dissolve into foul-smelling oils. Its bones, when exposed to oxygen, will chip and flake until there’s nothing left but soft debris.

The Scopoling returns to the Externus the same way as it does when entering our world. Once a group of Scopolings gathers together, they will leave in a hurry, hading out snout first into their own dimensional plane.
