The Hodoling originated from the use of pavement in the suburban areas.

It resembles a series of mobile roots underneath lifted blocks of concrete. The roots are actually tendrils made out of dirt and 1000 different variations of organic matter. Some of the organic matter doesn't exist on Earth. Yellow, glowing eyes can be seen underneath the concrete, its only sensory organ. The Borderling is incapable of moving outside from underneath the concrete panels. Because of this, its entire body is completely unknown.

The Hodoling's durability isn't different from the Earth plane's plant matter and can break and burn easily. It gives off a strong, earthy odor, making them blend with its surroundings. Its limbs are a delicacy to most herbivores and omnivores and will taste mildly spicy and dry. The aftertaste will leave one's mouth numb for 10 minutes.

An impure Hodoling's limbs are fragile and stiff and will smell like decaying fecal matter. Their eyes are dimmer than their healthy counterparts. Eating its roots will cause severe stomach problems. Once eaten, the individual will have to vomit the digested roots.

Effect on Its Surroundings

The Hodoling's effect radius can only affect individuals that made physical contact with it. When the Borderling gets stepped on, it will make a sharp hissing noise and vibrate its body. The affected person or animal will feel light-headed from the frequencies it generates. The effect will last for 12.5 minutes, regardless if the person is standing upright. While the fauna gets disoriented, the Hodoling it will have an opportunity to escape.

Grass will resonate a low humming noise when near a Hodoling. The stronger the effect radius will be, the louder the hum. Listening to the vibrations for as long as 3 minutes will create a numbing sensation. The additional effect doesn't cause harm if heard for prolonged periods of time. Insects, however, will have a different effect. The humming grass will lure any flying
and crawling insects. Touching the grass will paralyze the insects. They will become immobile in 10 minutes unless consumed.

Diet and Behavior

The Hodoling has a cautious and wearied disposition. It moves at a steady pace, never too fast and never too slow. The Borderling's limbs move in fast, jittery motions like it struggles to lift its own weight even though it's capable.
The Hodoling cannot make 180 degree turns and will pace back and forth along the path. Whenever the Borderling reaches a dead end or a corner of the block, it crawls backward while making sounds similar to sighs and grumbles. The Hodoling doesn't like getting stepped on by unwary people, therefore it prefers the break of dawn.

It hunts prey by making the grass hum. Paralyzed and dead insects are its ideal meal.

An impure Hodoling is sluggish and less alert than their healthy counterparts, and will easily get crushed without putting up a fight.

Habitat, Predation, and Interdimensional Travel

The Hodoling enters our dimensional plane by unknown means. It can be seen rising from underneath the sidewalk during early dawn, where there are little neighborhood activity and less sunlight. It will spend most of their time hunting for small insects that cross its path.

Using the concrete platforms as protection, the Hodoling will be safe from Earthly and interdimensional predators unless they get crushed by heavy feet. Its multiple eyes frantically scan its surroundings for smaller prey and predators. If it spots one, the Borderling will quickly burrow underground, protecting itself with its concrete panels.

Once there are any signs of sunlight and more activity in the neighborhood, the Hodoling will sink back safely into the dirt, returning back to the Externus.
